Origin of ZOMATO

ZOMATO is an india based online food delivery startup. It was founded by DEEPINDER GOYAL & PANKAJ CHADDAH in july 2008,gurgaon as FOODIEBAY which was renamed as ZOMATO in 2010. ZOMATO model is very simple It connects restaurants,hotels,and Dhabas customers.In this process zomato takes food packets from restaurants,hotels and deliver to customers. zomato provides packaging services to his restaurant and hotels clients for packaging food. In zomato revenue model ,it receive certain rate of commission from his app connected hotel,restaurants and dhabas.


ZOMATO is an india's biggest leading food delivery startup.In 2012, Zomato expanded its operation in U.K, Sri lanka, Qatar, South africa, Phillipines,&UAE. zomato expanded continously its operation in foreign countries. Now, it serves in 24 countries with more than 10000 cities.
Alongwith expansion in foreign countries, zomato also acquires various startups for increasing productivity of zomato.Till today, zomato has acquired more than 10 startups globally.


First acquisition by zomato in 2014 of "menu-mania" for an undisclosed sum. Second acquisition "Lunchtime.cz"and obedovatsk for us$3.25million.Third acquisition is poland based "Gastronauci" for an undisclosed sum .4th acquistion Italy based restaurant search service "Cibando". and various acquistion made by zomato such as Urbanspoon,Tonguestun food, Runnr and lucknow based Techeagle,that works on drones.The biggest acquistion is made in 1st month of 2020. Zomato acquired its rival"UBER EATS".
Zomato funded by Infoedge,sequotia, alibaba's payment affiliate Ant financial and from various others.

In july 2009 Zomato stranded in one controversies.In controversy, Zomato received a hindu customer's commplaint that he was assigned a muslim delivery man for his food order in jabalpur. Customer alleged to change the rider or cancel the order,customer posted this incident on twitter after which zomato responded on twitter by tweeted "food doesn't have a religion.It is religion"as response.This incident was done in Hindu's holy week ,but no one tried to known what is the reason behind customer allegations. Many people alongwith lib media criticized the customer.After this incident zomato also criticized by customers for its policies.Due to this incident operating profit gones down and now he recovered all losses and entering into Grocery delivery amid the covid-19 outbreak.
